Reflection
Enough can’t be said about appreciation and gratitude, yet so often there is none. Human beings have become so greedy. Now it is not about “thank you”, nor “I appreciate it”. It has become more of a “well, now that you did that, can you do this?” People expect so much, yet offer so little. The sadder part of it is they dare then complain when someone says they cannot. Perhaps I’m speaking too generally. Maybe it is only I that seems to attract this type of persona; who knows, I might have the word “sucker” written on my forehead. Regardless, it gets old. One can only do so much for another before they begin to take away from themselves. The least someone else can do is acknowledge and be grateful for that being done.
Let us take in the workplace for example. You have different type of employees, so this might not apply for all. However, there are those that genuinely work their asses off at a job. You know the type, always trying to do all that is asked of them and then some regardless of the title they hold. I’m speaking of the kind of employees that sincerely have a great work ethic and job commitment, workers that almost always aim to please.
Then you have your self-serving employer type. You know the type, always trying to squeeze all they possibly can out of an employee for the least amount of change possible. The ones that not only ask more of their employees, however demand it without giving anything in return. Worse still is they do it with the attitude of “Hey, I pay you”. Wait, there’s more. You even have some of these bosses that not only oppress you, they also want you to keep up a positive attitude.
The unfortunate part of it is that it’s not limited to the workplace. There are so many people out there on the world that take advantage of others’ goodness and loyalty. These users come in all shapes and sizes, from bosses, friends and even relatives. Yes, that’s right, relatives. Despite supposedly being the exception on account of being kin, selfishness does not discriminate. A self-absorbed person is a self-absorbed person and its only a matter of time until the true colors show. Now I ask you, what do you see in your reflection?
