Waterlogged
Albeit a water child, at the present moment in time I am quite over being exposed to the dampness. Last Tuesday night there was a water main brake at my office building and since Wednesday I have for the most part been having to deal with being wet involuntary. I walked in that Wednesday morning to about an inch of water in our office suite and the salvage process began. What I believe made it worse was having to stand in the water rescuing electronics, paper and what not. Afterwards, I had to stay in wet soaked feet until we were in essence kicked out of the building.
Fast forward to yesterday and walking back in to the office after working from home and the weekend that followed and it ended being another wet day. It began dry, however the rains came and threw a wrench in all of it. I suppose the one highlight of my work day yesterday was watching dawn break from the rooftop of our parking garage while I waited to be let in the office. All in all I was up there for about an hour yet I was content with being able to watch the sun break through our downtown skyline. It had a much welcomed soothing effect being that I knew I was walking in to a disaster area after a weekend of having contractors in our office ripping up our flooring, etc.
The building was on somewhat of a lock-down yesterday. Each person entering had to be an office employee and we had to sign in and out. You see the pipe that burst was on our floor and that flooded out all the floors beneath us as well. Now the building is under fire watch and they want to make sure they know who is in the building at all times should something happen. It was a little worrying though there was much work to be done. Besides, working at home had its limitation and its inconveniences. Being able to stay in pajamas all day only takes you so far.
Today is another day and with any luck it will go smoother than it did yesterday. I also hope for it to be a dryer today as well though there is a bit of humidity in the air and I have a chill. Though I love the fact the morning’s weather is cool, I really would love to be warm and dry. Such is life and you move on however. Responsibility calls and in to the office I go.
