Time waits for no man
It’s an odd time for human nature as of late. We have become a culture of disconnected beings. Yes we have the gift of the internet as well as smart phones which are both amazing pieces of technology. However, what we are lacking is a connection to our own individual selves and to our emotions as well as to others. I know I’ve touched on it before but it’s saddening to think of just how rampant it is. I see it grow more and more everyday and it frightens me to think just how far it will reach. Let me explain just what I mean. We hide our feelings. I’m not quite sure whether it’s been something we’ve been conditioned to doing over the course of time or if it’s something we inherently do as a self-preservation method, but it’s being done. I can see it when I talk to people. Perhaps it’s my empathic and intuitive nature ,or maybe as a photographer I can see something different when people speak. I don’t know for certain. It’s there though. I’ve even been guilty of doing it myself.
Yes, you see people get angry and lash out regularly, you see others hiding behind smiles or similar type masks too. But what are they truly feeling? You talk to some and even when they tell you how they feel about something or how they have been feeling, the way they verbalize those feelings is matter-of-factly, even altogether dismissive of their very own emotions. Cold, calculated, unpassioned. We are so busy portraying personas of who were are and losing touch with our very beings.
We are losing ourselves. While I understand and certainly agree with the whole “not everyone deserves a seat at your table”, are we really so afraid to admit to our feelings? Better yet, are we afraid of actually feeling them? Good or bad, feelings and how we feel is a very important part of what makes us human, what makes us beautiful.
Sadly, we hide behind our masks 🎭 more and more every day.
Food for thought.
