A thought
Twenty-Seven Years Between Then and Now

Twenty-seven years ago, I had no idea what was waiting for me.
Before the marriage decree. Before the divorce settlement. Before life took turns I couldn’t have anticipated. Before the MS diagnosis and the realization that sometimes the biggest battles are the ones you never saw coming.
I look at this photograph now and wonder what I would tell that girl if I could sit across from her for just a moment.
I’d tell her that life won’t follow the plans she’s making. That some promises won’t last, some chapters will end without the closure she hopes for, and some answers will take years to find. I’d tell her that she’ll lose pieces of the life she thought she was building, but she’ll discover parts of herself she hasn’t met yet.
There will be heartbreak, unexpected detours, hard lessons, and moments that demand more from her than she ever imagined she had to give.
But there will also be laughter, music, unexpected beauty, new beginnings, and a life that is still very much hers to shape.
Twenty-seven years. Countless memories. Lessons learned the hard way. A few scars, visible and otherwise.
I can’t go back and rewrite any of it, and I’m not sure I would. Every chapter, even the difficult ones, became part of the story.
That girl in the photograph didn’t know what was coming.
Neither did I.
But here we are. Then and now, separated by nearly three decades, connected by every single thing in between.
